Oct 9: David and Jonathan’s Friendship
Bible Passage: Galatians 5:22, 1 Samuel 20
Big Idea: Faithfulness is a fruit of the Spirit
Leader Context: Faithfulness is a fruit of the Spirit. Faithfulness can refer to faithfulness to God and faithfulness to friends. But faithful friendships are hard to find among kids. In the example of David and Jonathan’s friendship in 1 Samuel 20, Jonathan’s dad, Saul, hated David because of his threat to lead the kingdom. Jonathan is a faithful friend as he risks his life to rescue David from Saul. Challenge your kids and consider this for yourself: How can you pursue relationships that show faithfulness, instead of “ghosting” when things don’t go your way? and How can you serve regularly so that you don’t limit your ability to build real deep relationships with others in your church community?
