I Will Lead My Church

PARENTING AFFIRMATIONS
My children are a gift from God.  Psalms 127:3-5, The way I raise my kids will impact the world. Deuteronomy 6, Matthew 28:19-20

READ
14 “I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep, and my sheep know me. 15 They know me just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I give my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that do not belong to this sheep pen. I must bring them in too. They also will listen to my voice. Then there will be one flock and one shepherd. 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I give up my life. But I will take it back again. 18 No one takes it from me. I give it up myself. I have the authority to give it up. And I have the authority to take it back again. I received this command from my Father.”  John 10:14-18

DISCUSS IT
  • Who is the good shepherd? (Jesus)
  • How does the sheep know their shepherd?  (listen to His voice)
  • Jesus wants everyone to have a chance to follow Him.  How can you show Jesus that you are following Him?
  • How can we join Him in making sure others know about Jesus and following Him?

FAMILY ACTIVITY
Marco-Polo Sheep Edition:  Mark off an area in your living area or outside to be the sheep pen. Name one family member as the shepherd.  The others are all sheep. Blindfold all the sheep. Scatter all the sheep in the field outside of the sheep pen.  The shepherd is going to call each sheep by name and give them a command like, “Joey, take 4 giant steps forward.”  Once a sheep has made it into the pen, they can take off their blindfold and shout words to distract the sheep.  The goal is to get all the sheep in the sheep pen.  You can play many times, giving everyone a chance to be the shepherd.  Talk about what the shepherd and the sheep had to do to listen to the commands and follow them. Was it hard or easy?  How can we use this game as a way to remember to listen for God and follow His commands?
