PARENTING AFFIRMATION
The work of parenting is honorable, righteous, and significant. Colossians 3:23, 1 Peter 4:10-11
READ MATTHEW 7:24-29
24 “So then, everyone who hears my words and puts them into practice is like a wise man. He builds his house on the rock. 25 The rain comes down. The water rises. The winds blow and beat against that house. But it does not fall. It is built on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man. He builds his house on sand. 27 The rain comes down. The water rises. The winds blow and beat against that house. And it falls with a loud crash.”
28 Jesus finished saying all these things. The crowds were amazed at his teaching. 29 That’s because he taught like one who had authority. He did not speak like their teachers of the law. Matthew 7:24-29
DISCUSS IT
Have you ever built a sand castle? How big did your sand castle get? Why did it get so big or why were you not able to build it bigger?
Have you ever tried to build something on a rock? How was it different than building on the sand?
In the sermon from Jesus today, He warned people to consider building their foundation on the Rock. Did you know that Jesus is known as The Rock? Just like the structures you tried to build on rock were stronger than the structure you built on sand, our family will be stronger if we all build our lives off of Jesus.
What does Jesus tell us to do that we know we are building our house on the rock and not sand? (We are to hear Jesus' words and do what He says. That's why we do these Family Time devotionals as a family.)
How have you seen things be better and different because of what Jesus has done in your life?
FAMILY ACTIVITY
Did you know that answering that last question, is part of learning to share your testimony? Let’s practice together ways we can answer that last question. How have you seen things be better and different because of what Jesus has done in your life? You can talk about how prayer and knowing about the light, helps you not be afraid all the time. You could talk about how sharing/serving helped show someone else how much you love Jesus. What other ways have you seen Jesus work in your life? How can we use that as a way to share with others?
