PARENTING AFFIRMATION
I will treasure my kids’ unique personalities and foster their unique talents. Psalms 139:14 and I’m a better parent when I take care of myself. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, 1 Peter 5:7
READ
24 Then Jesus spoke to his disciples. He said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must say no to themselves. They must pick up their cross and follow me. 25 Whoever wants to save their life will lose it. But whoever loses their life for me will find it. Matthew 16:24-25
BIG IDEA
Jesus doesn’t invite us to be the best version of ourselves but to deny ourselves and become more like Him, to grow in holiness or Godliness. When we focus on being the best version of ourselves, we are not allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Read this verse together as a family. John 3:30. He must become greater; I must become less. John the Baptist was pointing out that even though what He was doing was good, Jesus is greater.
FAMILY ACTIVITY
Give each person a few pieces of paper or a spiral notebook. Ask them to spend a little time drawing pictures or writing everything they know about who God is. Encourage each other by sharing some thoughts. One way we are going to grow in Godliness is by focusing more on God and less on our accomplishments. How are you going to do that this week?

- How does promoting ourselves become so consuming?
- How can we encourage each other to celebrate what God is doing more than what we are accomplishing individually or as a family?
- Where do you need help focusing on God more?
