Seeing People Like Jesus Sees People

Series Focus:  Love Like Jesus
Use this guide to lead your family.  In each guide, you will find a parenting affirmation to help you focus on God's call on you as a parent/guardian.  Then, you will find a Scripture passage from the New International Reader's Version of the Bible.  When you are done reading, there are discussion questions to help your family talk about what you read.  Feel free to add to or skip  questions as time allows.  At some point during the week, it would be extra special to plan to do the optional Family Activity.

Parenting Affirmation: I will live in the moment today by engaging with and loving my kids with abandon.  Read Psalms 118:24

Read:  25 One day an authority on the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to receive eternal life?” 26 “What is written in the Law?” Jesus replied. “How do you understand it?” 27 He answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your strength and with all your mind.’ (Deuteronomy 6:5) And, ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ ” (Leviticus 19:18) 28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do that, and you will live.”  Luke 10:25-37

Discussion Questions:
How would each of you answer the same question Jesus asked?  What must I do to receive eternal life?  (if anyone around your table is struggling with answering this question, help them find ways to answer this question. You  can use this resource to help the conversation. https://www.gotquestions.org/Romans-road-salvation.html   Romans 3:23-24, Romans 3:10-11, Romans 6:23, Romans 5:8,  Romans 10:9,13, Romans 5:1, Romans 8:1, 38-39)
Now let’s look at the rest of Luke 10:29-37.  Will someone read that for us?
What did the teacher ask Jesus?  (Who is my neighbor?)
How did Jesus answer that question?  (with a parable- story that helps us understand a big idea)
Who is our neighbor?
What ways can we love our neighbors?

Family Activity:  Make a list of people you consider to be your neighbor.  Keep it with your devotion book this month, we are going to add to it each week.  Write one way you can love each neighbor you listed.  How can you each do one of these things this week?
