Both hear His words. Both build a house. Both experience a storm. From the outside, their lives may have looked equally secure. The difference was hidden beneath the surface. One built on rock, and the other built on sand.<br><br>Matthew 7:24-27 teaches that wisdom is not simply hearing the words of Jesus. Wisdom is putting them into practice. The wise builder acted on what he heard. The foolish builder heard the same truth but did nothing with it. <b>The difference between the two builders was not knowledge, opportunity, or circumstances. It was obedience.</b><br><br>We can easily confuse exposure to truth with obedience to truth. We attend church, listen to messages, read books, highlight verses, and discuss spiritual ideas. Those practices can help us grow, but none guarantees that we are living what Jesus taught.<i>&nbsp;Learning something new can feel like doing something new.<br></i><br>We hear a message about forgiveness and think it was powerful, but continue rehearsing the offense. We hear about prayer and agree that we need to pray more, but never create space to pray. We are challenged to serve, but remain on the sidelines. James 1:22 warns, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Truth does not change our lives until we put it into practice.<br><br>Jesus compares obedience to building on rock because foundations are formed slowly and with consistency. No one walks into a beautiful house and asks to see the footings beneath the concrete. People notice the colors, furniture, flooring, and finishes. But when a storm arrives, the part no one noticed becomes the part that matters most.<br><br>In the same way, spiritual strength is often built through ordinary choices no one else sees. We learn to pray before the crisis. We establish boundaries before temptation feels overwhelming. We learn Scripture before confusion arrives. We build Christian community before isolation becomes dangerous. We practice forgiveness before bitterness hardens our hearts. <b>Today’s obedience builds a foundation and prepares us for tomorrow’s storm.</b><br><br>Jesus does not promise that wise builders will avoid storms. Rain, rising water, and wind strike both houses. Following Jesus does not exempt us from grief, illness, disappointment, conflict, financial pressure, uncertainty, or unexpected change. The difference is not that one person experiences pressure while another escapes it. The difference is what remains standing afterward.<br><br>Storms often reveal what our lives are built upon. When plans fall apart, we discover whether our peace was built on control. When money becomes tight, we discover whether our security was built on possessions. When criticism comes, we discover whether our identity was built on approval. Storms do not create everything within us. They expose the foundation already there.<br><br>The house on the rock stands because its foundation is strong. Our confidence is not in our ability to control every circumstance or remain strong enough on our own. Our confidence is in Jesus. <i>A life built on Him may be shaken, but it will not be abandoned.</i><br><br>Sand often looks easier. Resentment feels easier than forgiveness. Compromise feels easier than establishing a boundary. Blending in feels easier than following Jesus. Delaying feels easier than obeying now. But delayed obedience leaves the foundation unfinished.<br><br>You are building a life right now. <b>Every decision places something into the foundation, and every habit shapes what pressure will eventually reveal</b>. Do not leave your response general. Identify one teaching of Jesus you already know but have not practiced. Complete this sentence: “Because Jesus said it, this week I will ______.”<br><br>A life changed by Jesus is built through daily obedience. Jesus has spoken. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<section class="sp-section sp-scheme-0" data-index="1" data-scheme="0"><div class="sp-section-slide"  data-label="Main" ><div class="sp-section-content" ><div class="sp-grid sp-col sp-col-24"><div class="sp-block sp-text-block " data-type="text" data-id="0" style=""><div class="sp-block-content"  style="">Ever see someone wreck their lives? &nbsp;Horrible decisions. &nbsp;Bad consequences. &nbsp;What happened? &nbsp;Most people do not wake up one morning and decide to destroy what matters most. <b>Compromise usually begins quietly</b>. A look becomes a thought. A thought becomes a desire. A desire becomes a habit. Eventually, what seemed small begins to pull the heart away from God and damage the relationships we value.<br><br>In Matthew 5:27-30, Jesus moves the conversation about adultery beyond outward behavior and into the human heart. He teaches that unfaithfulness begins long before a visible act. It grows in the <i>desires we entertain, the thoughts we nurture, and the attention we repeatedly give</i>. God wants more than outward compliance. He wants hearts that are fully devoted to Him.<br><br>Jesus then uses shocking language about removing an eye or cutting off a hand. He is not commanding physical harm. He is using intentional exaggeration to show how seriously we should confront sin. The eye represents what we allow ourselves to see. The hand represents what we choose to do. His point is clear: <b>do not casually manage what is leading you away from God</b>. Take decisive action.<br><br>Our culture often tells us to see how close we can get to temptation without crossing the line. Jesus calls us to move in the opposite direction. Radical faithfulness asks, “What strengthens my devotion to Jesus, and what repeatedly weakens it?” If certain content, conversations, relationships, apps, locations, or routines consistently pull you toward sin, holiness does not negotiate with them. Holiness creates distance.<br><br>This kind of obedience may feel extreme because sin rarely announces its final destination. <i>Temptation advertises immediate pleasure while hiding the eventual cost</i>. It promises relief, excitement, control, or affirmation, but it slowly reshapes our desires. What we repeatedly watch, imagine, or pursue will influence us. We cannot continually feed temptation and expect faithfulness to happen automatically.<br><br>Decisive action may mean deleting an app, changing a routine, ending a secret conversation, installing accountability software, avoiding a certain place, or asking a trusted believer for help. It may mean confessing what has been hidden instead of allowing shame to protect it. The goal is not simply to remove something unhealthy. It is to replace it with habits that strengthen love for Jesus: prayer, Scripture, worship, service, honest community, and wise accountability.<br><br><b>Grace is essential here. Jesus does not expose sin so we will surrender to shame. He exposes sin so we can walk in freedom.</b> Shame says, “Hide because this is who you are.” Grace says, “Come into the light because Jesus can forgive, restore, and change you.” We do not fight for faithfulness to earn God’s love. We fight because in Christ we are already loved and called to a better way.<br><br>Faithfulness also requires planning before temptation arrives. Boundaries are most effective when they are established in a clear moment, not created in a weak one. Decide now whom you will call, what you will avoid, and what access you will remove. Invite someone mature and trustworthy to ask honest questions. Secrecy gives temptation room to grow, but confession brings it into the light.<br><br>The first decisive step may feel costly, but the cost of continued compromise is greater. You may lose convenience, privacy, or access to something you enjoy. Yet every boundary declares that fellowship with Jesus and faithfulness to the people you love are worth protecting. Freedom often begins with one honest confession and one practical change.<br><br>Ask yourself what you are currently trying to manage that Jesus may be calling you to remove. Where have you been making excuses, testing limits, or assuming you are strong enough to handle repeated exposure? Do not wait until the damage becomes obvious.<br><br><i>Faithfulness begins in the heart, but it becomes visible through our choices.</i> Small, decisive acts of obedience protect what matters most and train our hearts to trust Jesus. Do not manage what Jesus is calling you to remove. Choose radical faithfulness, and take the next obedient step today.</div></div></div></div></div></section>]]></content:encoded>

Forgiveness is difficult because hurt often feels like a debt. <b>When someone wounds us, we believe they owe us something</b>: an apology, an explanation, restored trust, embarrassment, or pain equal to ours. Until that debt is paid, we may try to collect it through resentment, distance, silence, gossip, punishment, or repeated reminders of what happened.<br><br>In Matthew 18:21-35, Peter asks Jesus how many times he must forgive someone who sins against him. <i>Peter wants a limit. Jesus wants to transform his heart.</i> He tells a story about a servant who owes a king an impossible debt. The servant cannot repay it, so he begs for patience. Instead of merely extending the deadline, the king responds with compassion and cancels the entire debt.<br><br>That servant’s impossible debt points us toward our sin before God. We cannot erase it through good behavior, religious activity, comparison, or effort. We are forgiven because Jesus paid what we could never pay. Grace begins when we understand that God did not give us what our sin deserved. He gave us mercy. &nbsp;He gave us forgiveness and life.<br><br>The story then takes a shocking turn. The forgiven servant finds another servant who owes him a much smaller amount. He grabs the man and demands payment. <b>He remembers what he is owed but forgets what he has been forgiven</b>. The king is outraged because the mercy the servant received did not change the mercy he extended.<br><br>We can repeat the same pattern. We celebrate God’s forgiveness while continuing to collect from people who have hurt us. We replay the offense, withdraw affection, keep score, or imagine the day when the other person finally suffers enough. But when our peace depends on someone else apologizing, understanding, or paying for what they did, we place our freedom in that person’s hands.<br><br><i>Forgiveness means releasing what we cannot collect and placing the offense and the offender into God’s hands.</i> It does not mean the wrong did not matter. It does not call evil good, remove every consequence, or require immediate restoration of trust. Forgiveness and reconciliation are related, but they are not identical. Forgiveness can be chosen by one person. Reconciliation requires repentance, honesty, change, and the rebuilding of trust by both people. &nbsp;<br><br>Reconciliation takes two. &nbsp;Because of this, healthy boundaries may still be needed. Forgiving someone does not require returning to an unsafe situation or giving an untrustworthy person the same access they once had. It means <b>surrendering the right to seek revenge and refusing to let the offense continue ruling your heart</b>.<br><br>Releasing a debt also makes room for God to address the offender in ways we cannot. Romans 12 reminds us that vengeance belongs to the Lord. God sees the full truth, judges rightly, and cares about justice more perfectly than we do. Entrusting the situation to Him is not weakness. It is faith. We stop playing judge and allow God to carry what our hearts were never designed to hold.<br><br><i>Forgiveness is often a repeated decision before it becomes a settled feeling. </i>The memory may return. Anger may rise again. In those moments, we can choose again to release the debt to God. We are not pretending the pain disappeared. We are refusing to keep ourselves chained to it.<br><br>Ephesians 4:32 says, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” The strength to forgive does not come from minimizing what happened. It comes from remembering the mercy we have received. We forgive from grace, not from willpower alone.<br><br>What debt are you still trying to collect? Name it honestly. Tell God what happened and how it affected you. Ask Him for the grace to release your demand for repayment. Then take the next wise step, whether that means prayer, a boundary, a conversation, or reconciliation when it is safe and possible.<br><br>Forgiven people become forgiving people. The grace of Jesus does not merely cancel our past. It changes how we live with others today.</div></div></div></div></div></section>]]></content:encoded>

Usually, we see their faults clearly. We notice the careless words, selfish choices, bad attitudes, and repeated patterns. The harder work is seeing what is happening in us.<br><br>In Matthew 7:1-6, Jesus says, “Do not judge,” then paints a humorous picture. A person with a plank sticking out of his eye is trying to remove a speck from someone else’s eye. Jesus is not forbidding discernment or accountability. He is confronting a critical, self-righteous attitude that condemns others while excusing itself. The problem is not correction. The problem is hypocrisy.<br><br>We often measure ourselves generously and everyone else severely. When we make a mistake, we want people to consider our circumstances, pressures, and intentions. When someone else fails, we are tempted to treat that moment as proof of their character. I had a bad day, but they are rude. I feel overwhelmed, but they are selfish. I am being honest, but they are judgmental. <i>We judge others by their actions while judging ourselves by our intentions.<br></i><br>Jesus calls us to stop measuring others and start examining ourselves. Psalm 139:23-24 gives us a courageous prayer: “Search me, God, and know my heart.” David does not ask God to expose everyone else. He invites God to examine his motives, fears, desires, and anxious thoughts. This kind of prayer requires humility because God may reveal that our reaction is being shaped by insecurity, jealousy, fear, pride, or unresolved hurt.<br><br>Sometimes the issue is not only what another person said or did. The issue is also the lens through which we interpreted it. Fear of rejection can make disagreement feel like abandonment. A desire for control can make questions feel like disrespect. Insecurity can make another person’s success feel threatening. Honest self-examination asks, “What is happening in me, and what might Jesus want to change?”<br><br>One practical way to begin is to review a recent conflict without building a case against the other person. Write down what happened, then separate facts from assumptions. Ask what you felt, what you feared, and what you wanted in that moment. Consider whether your tone, timing, words, or silence contributed to the tension. If God shows you something, respond specifically. Confess it to Him, and when appropriate, own it with the other person. A sincere apology does not erase their responsibility. It simply demonstrates that you are willing to take responsibility for yours.<br><br>This does not mean we pretend that another person’s behavior is acceptable. Jesus says that after removing the plank, we will see clearly enough to help with the speck. The goal is not silence or avoidance. The goal is clarity. Correction should come from humility, love, and a desire to restore, not from superiority or a need to win.<br><br>Jesus also teaches discernment. Not everyone is ready to receive correction, and not every moment is the right moment to speak. Before confronting someone, pause and pray. Ask whether this is the right truth, the right person, the right time, and the right way. When someone corrects you, pause and pray again. Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.<br><br>Lamentations 3:40 says, “Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.” Biblical self-examination is not meant to trap us in shame. God reveals what needs to change so He can forgive us, heal us, and lead us into a better way of living. Returning to Him may mean confessing an attitude, apologizing without excuses, releasing resentment, or changing a repeated pattern.<br><br><b>The first person Jesus wants to change in every conflict is me.</b> Healthy relationships begin when we stop using someone else’s wrong to avoid confronting our own. Change begins when we pray, “Jesus, deal with me first.”</div></div></div></div></div></section>]]></content:encoded>

Others are subtle.<br>Discouragement whispers that your faith isn't making a difference. Temptation promises satisfaction apart from God. Division quietly works its way into relationships. Fear convinces us that we're on our own.<br><br>The enemy's greatest victories often don't begin with dramatic moments. They begin with small compromises, growing isolation, and quiet discouragement.&nbsp; That's why Paul's final encouragement in Ephesians is so important. He reminds believers to stand firm—not in their own strength, but in the strength that God provides.<br><br>Notice the language throughout the passage. The armor is given to believers who stand together. Roman soldiers often locked shields together, creating a wall of protection that was nearly impossible to penetrate. Alone, each soldier was vulnerable. Together, they became remarkably strong.<br><br>The same is true for the Church. &nbsp;One of the enemy's favorite strategies is isolation. He wants us to believe no one understands, no one cares, and no one will notice if we quietly drift away. But God designed His family to stand shoulder to shoulder, praying for one another, encouraging one another, and reminding one another of the truth when lies seem convincing.<br><br><i>Who is standing with you? &nbsp;And who are you standing beside?</i><br><br>This week, don't fight your battles in silence. Reach out to someone you trust. Ask for prayer. Encourage another believer who may be struggling. Spend intentional time in God's Word. Pray before the battle instead of only after you've become overwhelmed.<br><br>Victory isn't found because we're strong enough. &nbsp;Victory belongs to Christ. &nbsp;Our confidence comes from knowing that the One who called us is faithful, the Spirit who lives within us is greater than the one who opposes us, and the family of God is walking beside us.<br><br><i>The battle is real.<br>But so is the presence of God.<br>And that's why we can stand firm, together.<br></i></div></div></div></div></div></section>]]></content:encoded>

They are evidence that the Holy Spirit is transforming us.<br><br>Every day presents opportunities to choose "we" over "me."<br><br>That choice may look like listening before speaking. It may mean assuming the best instead of the worst. It may mean apologizing first, forgiving quickly, serving quietly, or celebrating someone else's success without comparison.<br><br>These moments rarely make headlines, but they shape the culture of our homes, our workplaces, and our church. &nbsp;Healthy churches aren't built through extraordinary events nearly as much as they are built through ordinary faithfulness.<br><br>Imagine what our community would experience if every follower of Jesus intentionally asked one question each day: "How can I reflect Christ's love to someone today?" &nbsp;Our neighborhoods would notice. &nbsp;Our families would notice. &nbsp;Our coworkers would notice.<br>The Church becomes most compelling when people see Jesus lived out through His people.<br><br>As you move through this week, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal one relationship where He wants to produce more grace, more patience, or more humility. Don't simply pray for change; take the first step toward it.<br><br>The world already has enough division. &nbsp;Followers of Jesus have the privilege of showing a better way.&nbsp; Let's be people who consistently choose "we" over "me."<br><br></div></div></div></div></div></section>]]></content:encoded>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<section class="sp-section sp-scheme-0" data-index="1" data-scheme="0"><div class="sp-section-slide"  data-label="Main" ><div class="sp-section-content" ><div class="sp-grid sp-col sp-col-24"><div class="sp-block sp-text-block " data-type="text" data-id="0" style=""><div class="sp-block-content"  style="">One of the greatest misconceptions about spiritual growth is believing it happens automatically. &nbsp;Time alone doesn't produce maturity. Plenty of people have attended church for decades while remaining spiritually stagnant. Growth happens when we continually surrender ourselves to Christ and allow Him to shape us through His Word, His Spirit, and His people.<br><br><i>That last one can be the hardest.<br></i>God often grows us through relationships.<br><br>Sometimes He encourages us through someone else's faith. Other times He convicts us through honest conversations. He teaches us through mentors, strengthens us through friendships, and reminds us of His grace through people who simply choose to walk beside us.<br><br><i>That's why isolation is so dangerous.<br></i><br>When we're disconnected, discouragement grows louder. Temptation becomes easier to justify. Our perspective narrows. Before long, we're trying to fight battles God never intended us to fight alone.<br><br>The Church is God's answer to that isolation. &nbsp;Every believer has something to contribute because every believer has received grace. Some teach. Some encourage. Some pray faithfully. Some serve quietly. Some simply show up consistently and remind others they aren't alone. Every gift matters because every member matters.<br><br>This week, don't settle for simply attending church. Pursue connection. &nbsp;Take one intentional step toward community. Invite someone to lunch. Join a Life Group. Ask another believer how you can pray for them. If you're already connected, invest even deeper in someone else's growth.<br><br>Healthy disciples help make healthy disciples. &nbsp;Perhaps the most encouraging truth is that God isn't asking us to become someone else. He's simply inviting us to become more like Jesus. That transformation happens one decision, one conversation, one act of obedience, and one day at a time.<br><br>Don't become discouraged if growth feels slower than you'd like. Healthy roots develop long before healthy fruit appears. Dust is everywhere. Walls are exposed. Progress feels slow. If you walked through during construction, you might wonder if the builders knew what they were were doing.<br><br><i>Our spiritual lives often feel the same way.</i><br><br>This weekend we were reminded that God isn't simply saving individuals; He is building a people. Scripture describes believers as living stones being joined together into a dwelling place where God lives by His Spirit. That means our faith was never intended to be private or isolated. God is shaping us while He is also shaping His Church.<br><br>The difficult part is that construction usually requires change. &nbsp;Sometimes God removes attitudes that have become unhealthy. Sometimes He exposes pride that we've ignored or unforgiveness we've been carrying. Other times He places people in our lives who stretch our patience, challenge our assumptions, or help us grow in ways we never would have chosen on our own. While those moments can feel uncomfortable, they are often evidence that the Master Builder is still at work.<br><br>It's easy to evaluate church by asking, "What did I get out of it?" A healthier question is, "How is God using me to build someone else up?" Every encouraging conversation, every prayer offered, every act of service, every invitation to coffee, every volunteer who quietly serves behind the scenes helps strengthen the house God is building.<br><br>The Church doesn't become healthy because one person is gifted. It becomes healthy because every person embraces their place in God's design.<br><br>This week, ask the Lord to show you where you can help strengthen someone else's faith. Maybe it's sending a text of encouragement. Maybe it's praying with someone after service. Maybe it's joining a small group or serving on a ministry team. Small acts of faithfulness become significant when they are placed in God's hands.<br><br>The beauty of God's construction project is this: He is working on all of us at the same time. None of us are finished. None of us have arrived. We want progress now. We want God to move now. &nbsp;But some of God's greatest work happens during the seasons when we are forced to wait.<br><br>That is what we discover in the story of Hannah in 1 Samuel 1. &nbsp;Hannah longed to have a child. Yet year after year, her prayer remained unanswered. While others around her experienced what she desired most, Hannah continued to wait.<br><br>To make matters worse, her pain was not private. &nbsp;Peninnah, her husband's other wife, continually mocked her because she could not have children. The Bible says this happened year after year. What began as disappointment became an ongoing source of grief and humiliation.<br><br>Still, Hannah did not walk away from God. &nbsp;Each year, she continued to travel to Shiloh, the place of worship. Despite her heartbreak, she kept showing up. Despite her disappointment, she kept pursuing the Lord. &nbsp;<br><br>That may be one of the most important lessons from Hannah's story. &nbsp;When you are waiting on God, don't stop pursuing God. &nbsp;Many people begin well but grow discouraged when God does not answer according to their timeline. Hannah teaches us that faith remains faithful even when answers seem delayed.<br><br>Eventually, Hannah brought her pain honestly before the Lord in a very public way. &nbsp;Scripture tells us she prayed in deep anguish and wept bitterly. She did not hide her emotions. She did not pretend everything was fine. She poured out her soul to God.<br><br>Sometimes we think faith means hiding our struggles. &nbsp;Hannah shows us something different. &nbsp;Faith means bringing our struggles to God. &nbsp;God is not intimidated by our questions, fears, disappointments, or tears. He already knows what is in our hearts. Prayer invites us to place those burdens into His hands.<br><br>As Hannah prayed, even the priest misunderstood her. Eli assumed she was drunk rather than recognizing she was desperately seeking God. &nbsp;Yet Hannah refused to let someone else's misunderstanding derail her pursuit of the Lord. &nbsp;That is an important reminder for all of us.&nbsp; Not everyone will understand what God is doing in your life. Some people will misinterpret your actions. Others may unintentionally say hurtful things.<br>Keep pursuing God anyway.<br><br>After hearing Hannah's explanation, Eli blessed her and encouraged her to trust the Lord.<br>What happened next is remarkable. &nbsp;The circumstances had not changed. &nbsp;She was still waiting. &nbsp;She was still childless. &nbsp;Yet Scripture says she went away, ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.<br><br>Why? &nbsp;Because she found peace before she found provision. &nbsp;God changed something inside Hannah before He changed anything around Hannah. &nbsp;Eventually, "in the course of time," God answered her prayer and gave her a son named Samuel.<br><br>But the greatest lesson of Hannah's story is not that God always gives us exactly what we want. The greatest lesson is that God can sustain us while we wait.&nbsp; Notice the progression:<br>Hannah's pain. &nbsp;Hannah's prayer. &nbsp;Hannah's peace. &nbsp;God's provision.<br><br>Many of us want to skip directly to provision, but God often meets us with His peace first.<br>If you find yourself in a season of waiting today, take heart. &nbsp;God sees you.&nbsp; God hears you.<br>God has not forgotten you. &nbsp;And while you wait for His answer, you can rest in His presence.&nbsp; The same God who was faithful to Hannah is faithful today. Trust Him with the timing, the outcome, and the whole of your story.<br><br></div></div></div></div></div></section>]]></content:encoded>

A struggling family member. A hurting community. A friend walking away from God. Or perhaps it was a burden that you could not seem to shake.<br><br>Often, God begins to reveal His purpose for our lives through the things that break our hearts. &nbsp;That was certainly true for Nehemiah. &nbsp;Nehemiah lived hundreds of miles away from Jerusalem as a cupbearer to the Persian king. He had a secure position, influence, and opportunity. Yet one conversation changed everything.<br><br>When travelers arrived from Jerusalem, Nehemiah asked about the condition of God's people. Their report was devastating: &nbsp;"The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire." (Nehemiah 1:3) &nbsp;The city remained vulnerable. The people lived in disgrace. The visible scars of exile still remained.<br><br>Nehemiah's response is what makes his story so powerful. &nbsp;He didn't criticize from a distance. &nbsp;He didn't blame others. &nbsp;He didn't ignore the problem. &nbsp;Instead, Scripture says, "I sat down and wept." &nbsp;The burden he felt drove him to God.<br><br>For months, Nehemiah prayed, fasted, worshiped, confessed sin, and sought the Lord. Before he ever spoke to the king, he spent time speaking to God. &nbsp;That is one of the greatest lessons from Nehemiah's life: hear from God before you speak for God. &nbsp;Too often, we rush toward solutions before seeking God's direction. Nehemiah teaches us that prayer is not preparation for the work. Prayer is part of the work.<br><br>As Nehemiah prayed, God began to shape his heart and clarify his mission. &nbsp;Eventually, God opened a door. Nehemiah received permission from the king to return to Jerusalem and lead the rebuilding effort.<br><br>But the work was not easy. &nbsp;Opposition came quickly. &nbsp;People mocked him. &nbsp;Enemies threatened him. &nbsp;Critics questioned his motives. &nbsp;Distractions attempted to pull him away from the mission. &nbsp;Even the people he was leading became discouraged at times.<br><br>Yet Nehemiah remained focused because he understood something important: if God calls you to a mission, opposition should be expected. &nbsp;Every meaningful work of God encounters resistance. &nbsp;The question is not whether opposition will come. The question is whether we will continue trusting God when it does.<br><br>Nehemiah kept pointing the people back to God's faithfulness. He reminded them that the God of heaven would give them success. As the people worked together, what seemed impossible became reality. The walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt in just fifty-two days.<br><br>But the rebuilt walls were never the ultimate goal.&nbsp; The real victory was spiritual renewal.<br>The people returned to God's Word. They worshiped. They celebrated. Maybe you were concerned about the consequences. Maybe you knew obedience would cost you something. &nbsp;Most of us have faced moments like that.<br><br>The story of Esther reminds us that courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is choosing obedience despite fear. &nbsp;Esther's story unfolds during a difficult time for God's people. The Jewish nation had been scattered throughout the Persian Empire. Esther, a young Jewish woman, unexpectedly became queen after King Xerxes selected her from among many women across the kingdom.<br><br>At first glance, her rise to royalty may appear to be a fortunate coincidence. But the Book of Esther reveals something deeper: God's providence. &nbsp;Providence is God working behind the scenes to guide circumstances and accomplish His purposes, even when we cannot see what He is doing.<br><br>Esther likely never imagined becoming queen. She may have wondered why God had placed her in such an unusual position. Yet what seemed random was actually part of God's greater plan. &nbsp;The same is true for us.<br><br>God places us in families, workplaces, schools, friendships, and communities for reasons we may not fully understand. Sometimes the position God has given us is not primarily about our comfort but about His purpose.<br><br>The defining moment of Esther's story came when Haman, one of the king's most powerful officials, devised a plan to destroy the Jewish people. Suddenly Esther faced an impossible choice. &nbsp;She could remain silent and protect herself. &nbsp;Or she could speak up and risk her life.<br><br>Approaching the king without permission could result in immediate execution. Esther understood the danger. She was afraid. &nbsp;Then Mordecai challenged her with words that continue to inspire believers today: &nbsp;"And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?" (Esther 4:14)<br><br>What if God had placed Esther exactly where she was for that very moment?<br>What if the same is true for us?<br>What if God has positioned you for a conversation, an opportunity, a challenge, or an act of obedience that only you can fulfill?<br><br>Too often we wait until fear disappears before we obey. But courage usually begins where comfort ends.&nbsp; Before Esther acted, she called for prayer and fasting. She understood that courage does not come from self-confidence. It comes from dependence upon God.<br>After seeking the Lord, Esther made a powerful declaration: &nbsp;"If I perish, I perish."<br><br>She entrusted the outcome to God and chose obedience anyway. &nbsp;That is what faith looks like. &nbsp;Faith is not trusting God only when success is guaranteed. Faith is obeying God when the future remains uncertain.<br><br>God ultimately used Esther's courage to save an entire nation. One woman's obedience changed countless lives. &nbsp;The same God who worked through Esther still works through ordinary people today.<br><br>You may not feel qualified. You may not feel ready. You may not feel courageous. But if God has called you to take a step of faith, remember this: courage is not confidence in yourself. It is confidence in the God who goes with you. Perhaps God has placed you exactly where you are for such a time as this.</div></div></div></div></div></section>]]></content:encoded>

We expected the job to work out. We expected the prayer to be answered by now. We expected obedience to lead to blessing, only to discover that sometimes doing the right thing seems to make life harder instead of easier.<br><br>That tension is exactly where we meet Joseph in Genesis 39. &nbsp;Joseph's life had already taken several unexpected turns. His own brothers had betrayed him. He had been sold into slavery and taken far from home. None of this was part of the future he imagined.<br><br>Yet throughout Genesis 39, one phrase appears repeatedly: &nbsp;"The Lord was with Joseph." &nbsp;That statement is remarkable because Joseph's circumstances were anything but favorable. He was not living in comfort. He was not experiencing freedom. He was not receiving the rewards most people associate with God's blessing. &nbsp;Still, God was with him.<br><br>One of the greatest misconceptions Christians can develop is the belief that God's presence is measured by our circumstances. We assume that if God is with us, life should be easier. We think obedience should automatically produce immediate success. But Joseph's story reminds us that God's presence and difficult circumstances can exist at the same time.<br><br>God was with Joseph in the pit. &nbsp;God was with Joseph in Potiphar's house. &nbsp;God was with Joseph in prison. &nbsp;The same is true for us.<br><br>God is present during difficult diagnoses, strained relationships, financial pressures, and uncertain futures. His presence does not disappear when life becomes complicated.<br>Joseph also teaches us that doing the right thing may still cost us something.<br><br>When temptation came through Potiphar's wife, Joseph refused to compromise his integrity. He honored God even when no one was watching. Yet his obedience did not lead to immediate reward. Instead, it led to false accusations and imprisonment. Joseph could control his obedience, but he could not control the outcome. &nbsp;Neither can we.<br><br>Our responsibility is faithfulness. The results belong to God. &nbsp;Perhaps the most encouraging lesson from Joseph's story is that God is still working while we wait.&nbsp; Prison looked like a setback, but it was actually preparation. God was developing humility, endurance, wisdom, leadership, and dependence in Joseph's life. Years passed before Joseph could see what God was doing, but every difficult season was being used for a greater purpose.<br>The same is often true in our lives.<br><br>What feels like a delay may actually be preparation. &nbsp;What feels like a closed door may be God's protection. &nbsp;What feels like a wasted season may be the very place where God is doing His deepest work.<br><br>Romans 8:28 reminds us that God works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. That does not mean everything that happens is good. It means God is able to redeem every part of our story.<br><br>Joseph could not see Genesis 50 while living in Genesis 39. &nbsp;Neither can we see every chapter God is writing in our lives. &nbsp;But we can trust Him. &nbsp;When the story doesn't make sense, keep honoring God. There will be fireworks, family gatherings, swimming pools, parades, and enough hamburgers and hot dogs to feed an army. But this year is even more significant. America celebrates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.<br><br>Take yourself back to 1776. The American colonies were under British rule. After years of increasing taxes, growing government control, and a lack of representation, many colonists longed to live as free men and women rather than under the authority of a distant king. &nbsp;That longing culminated on July 4, 1776, when the colonies declared themselves free and independent.<br><br>The opening words of the Declaration still stir hearts today: &nbsp;"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights..." &nbsp;Notice something remarkable. The Declaration doesn't say rights come from government. It says they come from our Creator. Government exists to protect those rights—not create them.<br><br>For 250 years those founding principles have shaped our nation. But as followers of Jesus, there is an even greater declaration we are called to make. &nbsp;Not a Declaration of Independence. &nbsp;A Declaration of Dependence.<br><br><i>While our founders declared independence from an earthly king, Christians joyfully declare dependence upon the King of kings.<br></i><br>The apostle James reminds us where everything good begins. &nbsp;"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights." (James 1:17) &nbsp;Every blessing in your life has the same source. Your family. Your health. Your opportunities. Your salvation. Even the breath you just took is a gift from God. &nbsp;So why does that matter? &nbsp;Dependent people stop acting entitled and start living thankful. &nbsp;Instead of looking for what we deserve or demanding fairness, we look for the good gifts that God has given each of us. &nbsp;We begin our day counting our blessings rather than continuing the "Karenization" of our culture. <br><br>James continues: &nbsp;"He chose to give us birth through the word of truth..." (James 1:18) &nbsp;Political freedom is a wonderful blessing, but spiritual freedom is an even greater one. &nbsp;America can protect many of our freedoms, but only Jesus can free us from sin, guilt, shame, and eternal separation from God. &nbsp;Our greatest hope has never rested in Washington, Austin, an election, or a political party. Our hope rests in Christ alone. &nbsp;If our hope rests in Christ alone shouldn't our trust be placed fully in Him? &nbsp;Not only for eternal life but for daily needs of our life? &nbsp;Dependent people know that they need the Lord and turn to Him consistently.<br><br>Then James moves from what God has done to what we should do and gives us the practical response. &nbsp;"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." (James 1:22) &nbsp;That may be the greatest challenge for believers today. &nbsp;It's easy to admire God's Word. &nbsp;It's harder to obey it. &nbsp;We can put in on our walls, but are we writing it on our hearts? &nbsp;The world tells us freedom means doing whatever feels right. God tells us freedom is found by following His truth. Real freedom isn't found in self-rule; it's found in joyful surrender to Christ.<br><br>This July 4, celebrate the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. Thank God for those who sacrificed so we could live in liberty. Pray for our leaders. Vote your convictions. Be a responsible citizen. &nbsp;But don't stop there.<br><br>Make your own Declaration of Dependence. &nbsp;Declare that every good gift comes from God. Declare that your hope is found in Christ. &nbsp;Declare that His Word is your authority. &nbsp;Declare that His Spirit is your strength. &nbsp;Declare that your life belongs to Him.<br><br>Because two hundred fifty years ago, a nation declared independence from a king. &nbsp;Today, followers of Jesus joyfully declare dependence upon the King. &nbsp;Today's Challenge: Before you celebrate America's freedom, spend a few moments thanking God for the freedom you have in Christ. Ask Him to help you live this week not in self-reliance, but in complete dependence upon Him.</div></div></div></div></div></section>]]></content:encoded>

When I hear about “teen takeovers,” widespread theft, and stores hiring extra security just to keep order, I wonder, What is wrong with people? When I see people devaluing life, treating others with hatred, and abandoning basic decency, I find myself asking the same question.<br><br>Sometimes it feels like our world needs a reset.<br><br>Wouldn't it be nice if we could simply power down, reboot, and start functioning properly again? Many of us have felt that way. We look around and long for revival, renewal, and a return to what is right.<br><br><i>But Scripture reminds us that cultural change begins with personal change.<br></i><br>If we want revival in our nation, it starts not with them but with me. The prophet Joel ministered during a time of national crisis. Judah had experienced a devastating locust plague that destroyed crops, threatened livelihoods, and exposed deeper spiritual problems. As Joel warned the people about the coming judgment, God interrupted the warning with an invitation:<br><br>“Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart...” (Joel 2:12)<br>Those first two words are powerful: Even now. &nbsp;Even now, despite the sin. Even now, despite the drift. Even now, despite the consequences. &nbsp;God's heart is always to call His people back to Himself.<br><br>The Hebrew word translated “return” is shuv, one of the Old Testament's primary words for repentance. It means to turn around, come back, or return. Notice that God does not say, “Return to religion,” “Return to church attendance,” or “Return to better habits.” &nbsp;He says, “Return to Me.” &nbsp;Why? &nbsp;<b>God's call is relational before it is behavioral.</b><br><br>Joel continues: &nbsp;“Return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” (Joel 2:12) &nbsp;God is not interested in partial devotion. He desires an undivided heart. A divided heart tries to serve God while holding tightly to other loyalties, priorities, or sins. &nbsp;That's why the psalmist prayed: &nbsp;“Give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” (Psalm 86:11)<br><br>Next, Joel also warns against merely going through religious motions: &nbsp;“Rend your heart and not your garments.” (Joel 2:13) &nbsp;In Joel's day, tearing one's clothing was an outward sign of grief and repentance. But God wanted more than a public display. He wanted a genuine heart transformation.<br><br>The same danger exists today. We can attend church, listen to podcasts, post Bible verses, and serve on ministry teams while still resisting God's work in our hearts. True repentance is more than feeling sorry. It is turning back to God.<br><br><i>The good news is that repentance is rooted in God's character.&nbsp;&nbsp;</i>Joel reminds us that God is “gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love.” We return because of who He is, not because of who we are.<br><br>If our world needs a reset, it begins one heart at a time. Before we point to the problems around us, let's allow God to examine the problems within us. &nbsp;Today, stop running from God and start returning to Him.</div></div></div></div></div></section>]]></content:encoded>

Parents can approve app downloads, manage contacts, limit website access, and block nudity in messages and FaceTime.<br><br>These are helpful tools. But as Mandy Majors reminded us at Family Camp, and as many commentators have noted, protection is not ultimately found in a device. Protection is found in a relationship.<br><br>No phone can replace a parent.<br>No filter can replace a conversation.<br>No technology can replace discipleship.<br><br>Thousands of years before smartphones, King Solomon addressed this same issue in Proverbs 4. Solomon, known for his wisdom, wrote about the instruction he received from his father, David: &nbsp;"Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction; pay attention and gain understanding." (Proverbs 4:1)<br><br>God calls parents to lead their children. The way that leadership looks changes through different stages of life, but the calling remains the same. Parents are called to teach, guide, encourage, correct, and model wisdom.<br><br><i>The goal is not simply to raise happy, successful kids. The goal is to help our kids love Jesus and live wisely.<br></i><br>Solomon continues: &nbsp;"I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths." (Proverbs 4:11) &nbsp;Children need boundaries before they have the maturity to consistently make wise decisions on their own. Clear boundaries are not punishments. They are protections. They help kids avoid stumbling while they are still learning to walk in wisdom.<br><br>But Proverbs 4 is not only for parents. It is personal for all of us.<br><br>"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." (Proverbs 4:23) &nbsp;The heart, in Scripture, refers to the center of our inner life: our thoughts, desires, motives, affections, and will. What fills our hearts eventually shapes our words, decisions, and actions.<br><br>We guard our homes with locks. We protect our bank accounts with passwords. Yet many of us allow countless influences into our hearts every day without asking whether they are helping us follow Jesus.<br><br><ul><li>What captures your attention?</li><li>What fills your mind?</li><li>What shapes your thinking?<br><br></li></ul>Solomon gives practical guidance. Guard your heart. Filter your words. Fix your gaze on what matters. Consider the path you are walking.<br><br>The principle is simple: what fills your heart influences what you say. What captures your attention shapes your decisions. Your decisions determine the direction of your life.<br>Parents establish boundaries because children need protection. God calls us to establish boundaries for ourselves because we still need protection, too.<br><br>Maturity is not outgrowing boundaries. Maturity is learning to establish them for yourself before someone else has to establish them for you.</div></div></div></div></div></section>]]></content:encoded>
